Short answer: an ADA-compliant portable toilet is built to the ADA’s turning-space, door and grab-bar requirements (e.g., a 60″ turning circle). A wheelchair-accessible unit has a ground-level entry and room for a wheelchair but may not meet every ADA requirement. If your permit, venue or contract says “ADA,” rent an ADA-compliant model.
Why our agents ask the question twice
Callers often ask, “Is this the handicap one or the ADA one—are they the same?” In our fleet they are different units. One caller needed a toilet a family member in a wheelchair could use at a private party; another needed ADA compliance for a permitted public event. They got different quotes.

How many accessible units does an event need?
2010 ADA Standards §213.2: where single-user portable toilets are clustered at one location, at least 5% of the units in each cluster must be accessible—so at least one per cluster—and identified with the International Symbol of Accessibility.
- 12 units in one cluster → 1 accessible
- 21 units in one cluster → 2 accessible
- Two clusters of 8 → 1 accessible in each cluster
Site requirements people forget
- A firm, level, stable route from parking or seating to the door—no gravel ruts, curbs or steep lawn.
- Zero-step entry at the sill.
- Room in front for the door to open fully.
- Space: the We’ll Care III needs roughly a 7 × 8 ft pad.
Who decides?
Your venue, permit or contract—not the rental company. We supply the model that meets the requirement you’ve been given and its spec sheet. See ADA & wheelchair-accessible rentals.
